  • The Westwood Prodigy Music Lesson Program will be hosting its first ever Open House at Westwood High School on Wednesday, June 6.

The event will run from 5:00-7:30 PM, and will feature a number of student performances, a band and string instrument “petting zoo“ and instrument rental (sponsored by K&C Music and Johnson’s Strings), tours of the recently updated WHS music practice facilities, a meet and greet with current faculty, and incentives for early lesson registration* for new students.

*New Prodigy Program students registered for fall lessons on a new band instrument by June 8, 2018 will be offered two free initial group lessons. Lesson times/dates TBA. Students are responsible for obtaining an instrument prior to the start of lessons.

Music lesson registration for the fall is currently open to students entering grades 2-12, as well as for adult members of the community. Families interested in more information about Prodigy music lessons and classes are encouraged to visit www.prodigy-program.org or contact Prodigy Program Coordinator, Joel Yennior at jyennior@westwood.k12.ma.us.

Current instruments offered include: violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, drums/percussion, piano and voice.

The Prodigy Program is currently celebrating its 27th year as a valued resource for quality, convenient and affordable musical instruction within the Westwood community. Since its inception in 1991, the Prodigy Program has grown to include over 360 music students taught by a staff of 25 professional musicians/teachers. Current Prodigy students study a variety of woodwind, brass, string and percussion instruments, as well voice and piano.

Students participating in the Prodigy Program work to gain the musical knowledge and skills that fully support their participation in our in-school band and/or choral programs. Many dedicated Prodigy students also pursue additional musical opportunities such as performing in solo recitals, playing in chamber groups, and auditioning for regional and all-state ensembles – in the process laying the groundwork for a lifetime of music participation and enjoyment.

Music lessons through the Prodigy Program begin the week of September 17, 2018. Families interested in more information about Prodigy music lessons and classes are encouraged to visit www.prodigy-program.org or contact Prodigy Program Coordinator, Joel Yennior at jyennior@westwood.k12.ma.us.
